Full course description
The Recovery Resilience Program Facilitator Certificate training course leads to certification as a Recovery Resilience Program Facilitator. The aim of this course is to learn how to successfully facilitate a Recovery Resilience Program in a group format or as part of an individual counseling process.
The Recovery Resilience Program (RRP) is an evidence-based, person-centered, and strength-based relapse prevention and recovery-oriented intervention designed for individuals in addiction recovery. The RRP is an application of Mind-Body Bridging and was developed at the I-System Institute for Transdisciplinary Studies, Utah State University.
At the core of an RRP are coping and self-regulation skills, called recovery resilience skills. The practice of recovery resilience skills builds “recovery resilience,” which refers to an individual’s capacity to successfully apply coping skills in high-risk situations without reverting to substance use and to self-regulate without substances. The concept of recovery resilience aligns with the notion of “recovery capital,” a term used in recovery communities to refer to the internal and external resources available to support and sustain recovery. Recovery resilience refers to an individual's internal resources.
The aim of participating in an RRP is for people in recovery to develop a recovery resilience practice that strengthens their internal resources, thereby contributing to their overall recovery capital and promoting flourishing.
The training is intended for mental health professionals, addiction counsellors, and peer recovery support specialists, enabling them to present the Recovery Resilience Program through four didactic lectures in a closed-group format or as part of an individual counseling process.
The training is designed to provide a dynamic, experiential, and didactic learning environment to equip participants with the necessary skills to successfully deliver the RRP. Successful facilitation of an RRP and its principles requires experiential understanding of its practices. Thus, the training course includes periods of personal practice of the Mind-Body Bridging-based sensory awareness and metacognitive skills.
